There’s a ramen shop in Ebisu that has been famous for ages, something like 20 or 30 years now. In a business like ramen, where trends change so fast, staying put in one spot and keeping at it for that long is pretty impressive. I dropped in while I was out buying a pair of Vibram Furoshiki shoes.
The table
The place is fairly big inside, and it was packed.
Cheese ramen
It’s a ramen shaped like a volcano, and apparently they even hold a patent on it.
The noodles
Well… when you pile on that much cheese, there’s no way it can taste bad. The presentation is fun and the price is on the reasonable side, so it makes sense that it’s popular.
As for the Vibram Furoshiki I bought that day, I wore them happily for about a month and then stuffed them away somewhere. Nothing holds your foot in place inside, so I kept getting blisters. When it comes to barefoot shoes, the Minimus is still the best. Before the new model came out they didn’t have my size, but as soon as it was released I had it bought through a proxy in the US, and I’m still wearing it today. In Japan the Minimus has all but been discontinued, so I just hope they keep making it in the US at least…
