I think it was in La Main that I read a dessert cafe called UNAS had opened across from CGV Apgujeong. I remember it being an article written by Kim Hye-jun. It is originally a baking-class studio, and the cafe apparently opens only Thursday through Sunday. So one hot summer day I set aside a day and went. I do not know why it is so hot these days.
Roughly what the place looks like
It is the shop at the very top, and if you look closely you can spot the UNAS sign too. It was so hot that climbing the stairs was a struggle, but on closer inspection there was an elevator as well. Found out too late..
Amour Ispahan
You get to taste Pierre Herme’s various cakes in a single cake. Infiniment, Mosaic, Ispahan and so on. It is a high-level cake that any Pierre Herme fan would be happy with. Pretty to look at, too.
Tiramisu
They say it is a tiramisu made in an unusual way (molecular gastronomy?), and the taste is as fun as the looks. There are plenty of tiramisu specialists these days, but this place’s tiramisu is full of character too, so it is worth a try.
Tea
I think this may be the best cafe for spending an elegant afternoon. Dior is in a league of its own in every sense, but below that, this is probably the top level for both taste and atmosphere.
Since it has been a while since my last dessert cafe post, here is some other dessert news too.
Chocolate from Au Bon Vieux Temps
It is chocolate that would go perfectly with drinks, but I just ate it at home without much ceremony. I have not been able to get out for whisky at all lately.
Guimauve from Parlour Laurel
The colors were so pretty I could not not buy it, and it tastes good too. Well, there are lots of places doing good guimauve these days. Delicious desserts are becoming more and more common, you could say.
Financiers and apple bread from Etoile in Garosu-gil
Etoile’s desserts are on a very high level, but when I recommended them because the bread was so good, they suddenly stopped selling it. It is a place I would like to visit often and keep checking the menu, but the problem is I have no reason to go to Garosu-gil these days.
