Bistro Polpo in Bangbae-dong

A friend came over from New York for a visit, so we stopped by Bistro Polpo. It is, after all, the bistro that represents Korea.

Bread from Lee Boulanger

bistro polpo

I bought some bread before heading to Polpo. A little something for the family..

Today’s wine

bistro polpo

I am no Batman, but I opened a Margaux for my friend.

Chestnuts

bistro polpo

They brought these out as a nibble to go with the drinks.

Spanish beer

bistro polpo

Pleasantly bitter and tasty.

Whisky flown in from New York

bistro polpo

This is the whisky that took first place in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible last year. It is hard to get hold of anywhere in the world, and yet here it is in my hands.

Chablis

bistro polpo

We start with a white, of course.

Bagna cauda

bistro polpo

A great starter.

Trippa

bistro polpo

My favorite dish here.

Asparagus

bistro polpo

They served this saying it was the first asparagus to come in this year. Tastes great.

Dureup (aralia shoot) and clam pasta

bistro polpo

A pasta that suits the spring season.

Danggwi (Korean angelica) spaghettini

bistro polpo

They use house-made bacon, and that is a treat in itself.

Gorgonzola penne

bistro polpo

It has become easier to eat than before. And as for the taste, with that much cheese poured in, of course it is delicious.

Pappardelle with ragu sauce

bistro polpo

Goes nicely with the Margaux.

Hanwoo beef carpaccio

bistro polpo

Jamon iberico

bistro polpo

Pairs well with perfectly ripe melon.

One more plate of pasta

bistro polpo

Yokan from Minamoto Kitchoan

bistro polpo

A dessert flown in from Japan. The sweetness is just beautiful.

Sauternes

bistro polpo

We ate and drank extremely well. Polpo never fails to satisfy.
