Eomeoni Daeseongjip in Yongdu-dong

Yongdu-dong is a bit further up from Dongdaemun, and I’d heard there was a great haejangguk place there, so I went to check it out. North of the river I only really know Hongdae, and I’ve hardly been to any of the good spots on the east side, so when a chance comes up I have to jump on it. Otherwise I’d never get there at all.

It looks roughly like this.

Watch out for the hours; they open late. Go too early and the doors are still shut..

The alley

First time in this neighborhood, and it’s kind of fascinating. What made them decide to open a haejangguk place in a residential area like this..

Side dishes

Neat and simple.

They have suyuk (boiled pork) too, so it’s a good place for a drink.

Haejangguk

Oh.. this is really good. There’s seonji (blood cake) in it, and the broth is clear. A top-notch haejangguk. If you live far away I’m not sure it’s worth coming all the way to Yongdu-dong, but it’d be great as a late-night third stop, or for a quick bowl if you live nearby. Which is why whether I’ll ever make it back here is anyone’s guess.

The sky that day

What a nice day it was..
