I am putting together all the posts from my visits to Maison M’O from this spring through the summer. First in, first out is my rule, but if I do not do it this way I will never get them all up.
The front entrance
This was my first visit, and since it was just before opening there were still plenty of cakes left. A little later it was packed with people. On my later visits I also aimed for the time just before opening.
The cakes
I thought I had bought quite a lot, but there are still so many cakes I have not tried.
More cakes
They have a good range of standard cakes, plus new items are added regularly, so you have to drop by often.
Bread and pastries
There is brioche, and kouglof too. Perhaps because it was just before opening, the other breads like the pithiviers were not out yet.
Chouquette cookies
A refreshing cookie where the tartness of yogurt keeps everything in balance.
Counter seats
There are three seats, and a slightly roomier space at the back. A clean, simple layout.
Guimauve
French marshmallows. It seems to be something they only make once in a while, so it was never there whenever I went, but I finally got some. Soft and squishy, yet the flavour is intense. Highly recommended.
Dacquoise cassis
Just as I expected, it is ridiculously good. An exquisite balance. If you are going to Maison M’O, be sure to try this..
Tarte au chocolat cuit
On my next visit a new cake had come out. I bought one and tried it, and sure enough it tasted amazing.
Pithiviers
It really is as good as it looks. I think it is better than the one at Old Croissant Factory. I have no idea how they bake bread this well.
Banana milk
It tastes very different from what the name suggests. There is a citrus-like tartness and tapioca in it too, giving it a refined flavour.
Cookies
They have cheese and pepper in them, so they are more like a snack to go with drinks than a dessert.
The blancmange I ordered on the following visit
They have a lot of citron-style desserts, and this one is in the same vein.
Laphroaig crème brûlée
The aroma of the heavily peated whisky is strong, so whisky lovers will love it, and those who dislike it probably will not care for it much.
Caramelised nuts
It seemed like it would go well with whisky.
Sandwich citron
They had an unusual sandwich, so I bought it. Not easy to eat, but it was tasty.
That was the last time I went, and it has become hard to get there since. Instead I went to Pierre Hermé in Tokyo.. and well, Pierre Hermé is Pierre Hermé.. I will put together the details later.
