Every winter I make sure to get at least one chance to feast on seasonal seafood. This year I was especially busy, so sadly I only managed to go once.
Assorted sashimi from Hyeongje Sanghoe
I asked a super-regular to make the reservation, and the portion was enormous. On top of that, the fish head they threw in for free was so big I thought my stomach would burst. At a fish market, it really is all about being a regular.
Dosoju
I was told it is a seasonal limited release from Kooksoondang. It tasted better than I expected. Our traditional liquors are improving day by day. Thanks for the treat~
Scallops
Being in season, they tasted great, as expected. If I had not made it to the fish market this winter, I would have really regretted it.
Squid
I asked the lady to steam it whole, and this is how it came out.. Hmm.. The artistic scoring was nice and all, but..
Whelks
So good I would call them the best of the day. Sweet as if sprinkled with sugar. Originally I was thinking of doing shabu-shabu if they had saejogae (egg cockles), but there were none, so I could not. The whelks I picked instead were so satisfying that I did not even miss the saejogae.
Probably a sea bream head
It is gigantic, and there is plenty of meat on it too. This one alone would make enough anju for about three people. Thanks to the freebie, I was stuffed.
The whisky of the day
It had been a while since I wanted a good whisky, so I brought one along, and it was excellent as always: the Glenmorangie Signet. Such a shame to be drinking it out of soju glasses in Noryangjin. From now on I really should carry a proper whisky glass with me.
Oyster soup
The oysters were sweet too. I do not know why seafood is this delicious. Normally we would also have maeuntang (spicy fish stew), but that day I had eaten so much I could not even think that far.
A-BRICK, a coffee shop around Hongdae? Or Mangwon-dong
Idam of Baram Coffee in Jeju had come up to Seoul for a while and was running the place, so we stopped by for round two.
I went with beer..
It was nice to see him again after so long. We enjoyed our drinks and moved on to round three.
