I came out after a good look around the Window Bakery Collection and found myself hungry. Wonder why. I figured I would grab a meal before heading home, and as it happened Cheung Kee Noodle House was right nearby. When it is this close there is really no choice.

Fried shrimp wontons

The sauce is cute. Still tastes as good as ever. The owner was minding the shop this day too, and maybe that is why I trusted the food even more. When I asked, he said he is there almost every evening these days, and often at lunchtime too.

Shrimp fried rice

Every single grain of rice is coated. It is not easy to find fried rice at this level downtown. Good as a meal, and good as a light snack with drinks too.

Beef and wonton lo mein

For some reason I was craving braised beef that day, but felt there should be noodles too, so I ordered this. Of course it was great with drinks, and dropping it into the wonton soup that comes with the fried rice was a treat as well. Another thoroughly satisfying meal.

A glass of Shaoxing wine

With this many dishes on the table it felt wrong not to have a drink, so I ordered a glass. As expected, it goes wonderfully with the food at Cheung Kee Noodle House.

After eating this well, I stopped by Mugyo-dong Bugeogukjip (the dried pollack soup place) nearby.

Not for a second round; I got it to go as a stand-in for dinner. Lately I have been taking food home to eat more and more.

Inside

Clean and tidy. The menu is just one thing, bugeoguk, and even though it was well past mealtime, customers kept coming in. I went because I had heard it was popular, and the atmosphere was much nicer than I expected.

Bugeoguk

Bugeoguk with a rich broth. Great value, and it seemed perfect as a hangover cure the morning after drinking. With this much flavor, no wonder it is popular. Of course, bugeoguk is such a plain dish that it may not be worth making a special trip from far away.
