I saw a post on Bistro Polpo’s official Twitter saying they had started serving trippa, so I dashed over for lunch that weekend. I am quite fond of offal dishes, and there are not many places in Korea that do trippa well, so I was really looking forward to it.
The view out the window
If you look closely you can tell it is Sai-gil in Bangbae-dong. I had a feeling that eating by the window would get tough once the weather turned hot, but since they have stopped doing lunch, that no longer matters.
Tomato salad
A refreshing starter.
A glass of wine
I ordered it by the glass. Nothing beats a daytime drink~
Trippa
This was the reason I came, and maybe because I like offal dishes, it went really well with the wine. If they had a good lineup of a la carte dishes like this, it would be a great place to drop in for a casual glass of wine anytime, but for now it is still mostly courses, which is a bit of a pity. Well, courses have their own merits, so it is no real problem when I have an occasion to drink.
Salad
As always, the bagna cauda salad comes out.
Bread from Lee Boulanger
I cannot tell you how lucky I am to have such a delicious bakery nearby.
With the trippa on top
Even better as a snack with drinks.
Fresh anchovy pasta
It is generous with good seasonal ingredients and tastes good, but maybe because the focus is on bringing out the flavor of the ingredients, it feels a touch too simple. It seems like it needs a little more work, though striking the balance will not be easy.
Mushroom cream pasta
They have an exceptional eye for ingredients, which clearly sets them apart from other pasta places. With the right arrangement, I think it would get a lot tastier.
Coffee
As expected, the coffee that day was once again among the best in Korea.
Polpo gets better every time I visit, which makes me want to root for them all the more. I still have about three or four more Polpo posts to go, and there is a real fear that I will visit again in the meantime and end up with an endless backlog, but I will keep going back diligently.
