Palette Dessert in Gyesan, Incheon

I went to Palette Dessert. Why? To buy a dujjonku (Dubai chewy cookie), of course. This is probably the most famous dujjonku shop in the whole country.

The scenery on the way

May weather is lovely.

Maybe the dujjonku boom is over, because the line wasn’t that long. Back in January I watched people queue for an hour at minus 10 degrees (minus 15 with wind chill) just to eat one, and I thought they had lost their minds, but now you can actually line up and buy one. Booms really do come and go fast.

Inside

This is pretty decent. Since it’s mostly takeout, the line shrinks quickly.

Chewy cookies

Pallette dessert.

There are lots of fancy desserts.

Coque flakes

Pallette dessert.

Since they’re famous for macarons, they even sell this kind of dessert.

Big butter tteok

Pallette dessert.

This is the next trend after dujjonku, though it doesn’t seem to have quite the same firepower. It tastes good, though.

Fresh mango sando

Pallette dessert.

This also seems to be popular these days.

Meringue cookies

These look tasty too.

Macarons

Originally, the fancy macarons were Palette’s main product. Not the dujjonku.

All kinds of macarons

Pallette dessert.

They’re so elaborate you wonder how such macarons can even exist. I don’t think anyone but Palette Dessert could pull this off.

The dujjonku I finally got to buy

Pallette dessert.

This place is famous for the Jang Won-young dujjonku, and one bite in, the nuttiness of the pistachio came surging through. No wonder it’s popular.

Butter tteok

Pallette dessert.

The butter tteok is also recommended: the butter aroma is rich, and the bake and chewiness are just right. Not quite at Reepicheep’s level, but pretty impressive.

With this visit to Palette Dessert, I finally became someone who has eaten the Jang Won-young dujjonku, and with that, something spiritual between me and Jang Won-young… is not going to happen, is it. As long as the dujjonku is tasty, that’s good enough, I think.
