While I was busy hunting for good restaurants within walking distance, I heard a rumor that there was a nice Western-style restaurant in Ryogoku, so I dropped by one Saturday for lunch. Ryogoku is famous for sumo and chanko nabe, but it turns out there is a yoshoku place too.
Inside the restaurant
It has an open kitchen, and it is not a small place. To be honest, Asakusa is no slouch when it comes to yoshoku, so I did wonder whether it was worth coming all the way to Ryogoku, but once I got here the atmosphere was really nice.
House wine
They had reasonably priced wine, so I ordered a glass.
White fish terrine
This is part of the lunch course. It is more casual than what you would get at a French restaurant, but it tasted good.
Corn potage
The soup was just right, too.
Consomme
The soup I ordered
Salad
It has the feel of a neighborhood yoshoku restaurant.
Beef sirloin katsu sando
This is the house signature: tender beef made into a sandwich. It is a shame the meat is so rare that it lacks bite, but the beef itself is of good quality, so it has a charm of its own.
Scallop and sea bream grilled with sauce diable
The main of the lunch course. The scallop and sea bream, cooked with a slight kick of spice, were wonderfully fresh and grilled just right.
Dessert
I have been eating so much good cake lately that it did not move me much, but as a dessert to round off a weekend yoshoku course it was fine.
Ryogoku is known for the kind of restaurants middle-aged guys love, so I had no idea there was such a lovely yoshoku place here. I would like to go back if I get the chance.
