Asakusa is a tourist spot, but it has a surprisingly wide range of good restaurants. Until I moved to this neighbourhood, I had no idea there was a well-known Vietnamese place here. Since it was the weekend – or rather, since I could not be bothered to cook at home on the weekend.. – I went to Authentic, in the underground arcade at Asakusa Station. Being a popular spot in a tourist area on a weekend, there was a bit of a line.
Lemongrass minced pork rice
It looks a bit thrown together, but the pork is well seasoned and tasty. A winning order.
333 (Ba Ba Ba) beer
I ordered a Vietnamese beer on purpose, but it did not feel as much like being there as I had hoped. Probably because the weather is so different.
Seafood pho
The broth is light and refreshing, but the noodles have no bite. Vietnamese pho is pretty much always like this, but it did not suit my taste these days.
Fresh spring rolls
The portion felt a little small, but the taste is fine. Lunch was good, but it also looked like a nice place to come in the evening, order a few small plates and have a drink. It is a good restaurant near home, so next time I will try it that way.
