I’d heard rumours that an ice cream shop for gourmets had opened in Hongdae, but I’d been so busy touring bakeries that I never got around to paying attention to ice cream shops. Besides, I didn’t really have a feel for what “ice cream for gourmets” was supposed to mean. Now that the bakery touring has more or less wrapped up, and with everything I kept hearing about the place being good, I dropped by while I was in Hongdae this time.

It’s located near Choma, the jjamppong place. It’s not as big as I’d imagined, and it felt like it’s mainly geared towards takeout.

Some of the ice creams had already sold out. I suppose that means the place is settling in nicely.
Lemon Cream and Toasted Pistachio
I took it away with me, so it had melted a little. Rather than being loaded with excessive fat like Haagen-Dazs, it tasted light and clean, which actually made it easier to get through. “Gourmet” might be putting it a bit grandly – I was simply glad that one more tasty ice cream shop had opened.
These days, specialist shops that used to be hard to find in Korea are opening one after another – ice cream shops, macarons, Swiss chocolate and so on. There are now so many that you could visit just one a week and still keep going all year round. I suppose it means life for people in Seoul is gradually getting richer. Times are tough these days, but I hope lots of people get to feel those little pleasures.
