Over the weekend I went to La Cucina at Seoul National University’s Engineer House. La Cucina is a restaurant famous for its Italian food in Itaewon, but at the SNU branch they do Italian and Chinese at the same time. Engineer House is run by the College of Engineering, and during the week it is used for official events and as a restaurant. On weekends there are weddings for graduates or current students, so what comes out is a wedding buffet. The hall itself isn’t all that big, but whether it’s the view or the food, it seems to be quite popular.
I didn’t get to eat anything particularly special this time, but here are a few photos of the wedding buffet.
The base is Chinese food.
There’s Italian, there’s Korean, a bit of everything. Overall it’s respectable for a wedding hall buffet, though there are cases where the ingredients they use aren’t great. Even so, considering the price it’s very reasonable. For dishes that don’t depend much on ingredient quality, like yusanseul or the cold jellyfish salad, the satisfaction level is quite high. As with all food at places like this it’s hit or miss, so you have to choose wisely.
Sushi and sashimi
I spat out the sashimi after a bite – something must have gone wrong in the thawing, because it smelled off. The sushi wasn’t made with any impressive neta, but it was decent.
I didn’t photograph the desserts, but there was a good variety and they were far better than the usual wedding hall level. At this standard the guests would be pleased too.
The view outside
It’s still winter, but maybe because the sky was clear the view was pretty good. By around next month the weather will be warmer, so I think attending a wedding here, feeling like you came out for a weekend picnic, wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.
