I called an Australian wine meetup for the foodie group I’m part of, but not enough people signed up, so I quickly changed course. It became a gathering of four people drinking Château Margaux.. Actually, I had meant to drink the Margaux to mark spending White Day alone yet again this year, but I was feeling so rough that day that I decided to wait a few days, and it ended up like this. Colds really drag on these days.
The wines I brought today
Australian wines. I got the Kilikanoon Oracle cheap this time too, so I opened it.
The white is a Chablis.
I got it cheap and added it to the lineup. It tastes fine. But somehow it feels like few of the wines you drink in Korea have been stored well. Aging a firm, structured wine and then drinking it seems to be the best way.
Starter
Just so-so. I don’t think frozen crab meat is much different from imitation crab sticks.
Swordtip squid
It was edible enough, but thinking of the squid dish I had at Caudalie shortly before makes me sigh.
Chuck flap
The chuck flap wasn’t great that day either. I guess there are days like this. It’s a popular restaurant anyway, so customers will keep flooding in.
Steak
…
Crème brûlée
Dessert comes too.
Chocolates from Richemont, provided as a sponsorship
They look pretty. The taste isn’t bad either. Of course they fall short of top-tier.. but you shouldn’t expect that much. I’d recommend them as a gift for women.
We drank all that, then had single malt and port too, and it was a lot of fun. The Margaux I’d been looking forward to hadn’t opened up enough and didn’t show its full glory. Even so, it clearly showed the difference in class. It’s a bit of a shame the Oracle didn’t get more time in the cellar. Next time I should just enjoy it slowly or wait until its drinking window. Of all the wines that day, the port was the best value for money. I need to remember that.
