Eddy’s Cafe in the Basement of Shinsegae Department Store

Chef Edward Kwon has a place called Eddy’s Cafe in the basement food hall of the Shinsegae Department Store at the Express Bus Terminal, so I went there for lunch on the weekend. It was absolutely packed. Because of that, the service was a bit of a mess. Considering the vibe of a department store food hall, though, the service problems weren’t beyond understanding. Once again I shot these with my phone camera, so please forgive the terrible photos..

The kitchen

It was lunchtime and the place was swarming with people, so the staff were all rushed off their feet.

Soup

I’ve forgotten what was in it, but it was really good. Just as I’d hoped, the dishes here give you a lot of satisfaction for the price.

Poached egg and ham

eddy's cafe

Not a bad salad.

Was it a sandwich or a burger..

eddy's cafe

It’s the handmade burger that’s so trendy these days, and both the taste and the portion are top-notch. It has to be at least this good before you can say it beats Burger King. The calorie pressure, though..

Pasta

eddy's cafe

The portion is big, and the tomato sauce is delicious. A proper, filling meal.

Braised seafood

eddy's cafe

Once again a very generous portion. The bread seems lightly soaked in oil, and eaten together with the seafood underneath, it’s to die for. Apart from being as noisy as a market floor and having some service issues, this seems like a decent place. The chef having a lot of haters is a big drawback, though.

Macarons from Après-midi

eddy's cafe

A macaron specialist that only operates in Shinsegae. The quality seems to vary a lot depending on the flavor, but otherwise it’s fine. The shop interior and product design looked heavily inspired by Ladurée. My first reaction was ‘what the..’.
