Going down for the hotel’s set breakfast is always a hassle. It’s nothing special taste-wise, and I want to sleep in anyway. So the day before, I’d picked up some futomaki to go from Naniwa Sushi.
Jumbo futomaki
Since it was a day old, and made with fillings chosen so they wouldn’t spoil in the summer heat, it wasn’t as tasty as I’d hoped, sadly. Still perfectly edible, though. There was so much of it that I think I left about half.. Anyway, a great sushi place like this deserves regular visits.
Jersey milk soft serve from the Hiruzen Highlands
A while back I brought a friend some milk from the Hiruzen Highlands, and it was so good they still remembered it. I’d originally planned to go to the Adachi Museum of Art, but we made a sudden change of plans and headed for Hiruzen instead. It’s about an hour’s drive on the expressway. A bit far to go just for a glass of milk, but so what.. it was a lazy holiday morning. It was nice to be out on a long drive for once, and we had milk and soft serve, and it really is delicious. That rich yet completely clean, pure milk flavor has very few rivals.
The highland scenery
A bit bare, isn’t it? But plenty of tourists were gathering there from all over. Lots of families.
We headed back into town for lunch and, after some dithering, ended up at Capricciosa. It was a bit of a miss that day, though. When they’re on form they’re really good, but maybe because it’s a chain, the cooking is inconsistent. My friend had come all this way, so I felt bad. Maybe we should have just gone for soba..
Fresh pasta in tomato cream
Fresh pasta as always, which I love..
Fresh pasta vongole
After this quick bite, we moved on for dinner proper.
