Guillaume, a French Bakery in Apgujeong-dong

After lunch at Hanilgwan, I went to Guillaume, a French bakery that’s apparently the hot new thing in this neighborhood.
The place is famous for bread said to be almost exactly what you’d get in France, but it’s even more famous for its handsome owner and servers….

So honestly, I didn’t really feel like going.. but.. well.. things don’t always go the way you want, do they…
Here’s the kind of bread they brought out..

Apple pie

And the inside looks like this..

guillaume

Thing is.. in a bit I’ll show you a much better-looking apple pie..

French bread + fig jam

guillaume

It felt less like dessert and more like a meal.. They say it’s like the bread you buy in France.. but the flour didn’t seem all that high-end.. In Tokyo there are places that make bread with top-grade flour, you know.. like VIRON or La Boutique de Joël Robuchon..

Strawberry tart

guillaume

Didn’t get to try this one, so I’ll pass..

Chocolate cake

guillaume

Pass on this one too..

Meringue

guillaume

Meringue just melts in your mouth.. ^_^ Though as you keep eating, you feel a little sorry toward your body (especially the area around your waist).. The meringue here was about the size of a soboro bun (a Korean streusel bun).. It’s actually a super sweet item, so other places sell it small, about cookie size. Made this huge, it doesn’t even look good when you break it apart, and I couldn’t figure out how you’re supposed to eat it.

For Korea, a place at this level is definitely a good one, but they didn’t have the nut-packed breads I love, and I wasn’t happy with it in a lot of ways. And just so you know, I really hope you’ll understand that this is absolutely not because only the handsome servers came out and no pretty ones..
