Honestly, Akihabara doesn’t have many good places to eat. Kyushu Jangara Ramen, where people line up, isn’t all that tasty, and Marugo, the tonkatsu place, is pricey for what you get. Since there’s nowhere worth a special stop, someone like me who absolutely hates grabbing just anything to fill up on the go usually either avoids mealtimes when heading there, or moves over to Kanda to eat.
Then I heard a rumor that there was a decent shio ramen specialist, so I went along with a friend who had errands in Akiba.
The sign
It has an unusual name: Ikina Issho. It’s technically in Akihabara, but it’s tucked away in a corner near Suehirocho Station, so it isn’t easy to find. It might even be quicker to come from Kanda.
Basic shio ramen
A very polished shio ramen. At this level it’s worth making the trip for. Still, eating ramen in hot broth when it’s over 32 degrees every day is no easy thing. Maybe I’d have been better off going to Kohmen on the 8th floor of Yodobashi, where the air conditioning is nice and strong.
This place doesn’t sell a ramen with all the toppings on it. You have to buy each topping separately and add it. That’s really inconvenient for anyone who finds choosing from a menu a hassle, and I don’t get why they do it.
Rice that came on the house
It isn’t that expensive and the service is good too. I’ll drop by again next time, once the weather cools down a bit.
