Pyeongyang Myeonok in Uijeongbu is the original, head house of the Pyeongyang Myeonok branches in Bundang and Jangchung-dong. We were wondering where to go for round two of our mandu meetup, and ended up at Pyeongyang Myeonok, a great restaurant nearby. “Nearby” is a bit of a stretch, but a place that does things properly is always worth the trip. This is another one I might never have gotten around to visiting on my own, which made it all the more meaningful.
The front entrance
The whole neighborhood was motels. The vibe was a little shady.. but no, the restaurant was not packed with cheating couples.
Side dishes
Simple, like at any other naengmyeon place.
Jeyuk (boiled pork)
Lovely color. A place with this much history, you can expect at least this much.
Mandu
The Mandu Road had barely wrapped up and here we were ordering mandu again. They definitely feel different from Chinese dumplings. They were tasty, but I had overdone it at round one, so I was already pretty full.
Naengmyeon
Before I could say a word, they had cut the noodles for us. You really don’t need to do that with Pyeongyang naengmyeon.. Anyway, it tasted like proper, traditional naengmyeon. Quality this good, I’d drop by often if I lived nearby. That said, there are plenty of good naengmyeon places in Seoul, so I don’t see myself going all the way to Uijeongbu for it. Especially for me, living in Gangnam, anywhere else is just too, too far. Even within Gangnam I can’t be bothered to go anywhere, so these days I’m basically holed up at home.. Escaping Gangnam gets harder by the day.
