On White Day an impromptu get-together suddenly came up, so off we went to Jangchung-dong. Last time I went to Pyeongyang Myeonok the food was a bit disappointing, but this time it was good.

Mandu

Once you are at a Pyeongyang naengmyeon place, there is no way you can skip the mandu.

Suyuk (boiled pork)

The price is a bit steep – when did it get this expensive.. – but that day it was lovely and tender, really good.

Naengmyeon

I remember it being incredibly salty the last time I ate it, but today it is delicious. Apart from the heartache of naengmyeon prices climbing so much lately, I could definitely feel that Pyeongyang Myeonok is a classic institution.

After the meal we moved somewhere else to sit and chat, heading over to The Library at the Shilla. I could not think of anywhere else nearby worth going, and the parking there is good too.

The tea was just so-so..

Cookies

These were just okay too.. A little underwhelming for the price, but the place has atmosphere, so I suppose you have to factor that in.

Teuscher’s champagne truffle chocolates

I had kept them in the freezer for a long time, so the white dusting on the outside had disappeared. They do look tastier with it on, but it did not really make much difference to the taste. These days there are so many places doing chocolate well that the chocolate itself does not strike me as particularly better than other specialist shops, but maybe it is the champagne – somehow it tastes luxurious. That must be what makes this shop distinctive. It is expensive, but for the one or two occasions a year that call for it, I think it is not a bad choice.
