An oyster ramen shop opened in downtown Hamamatsu. Oysters are only in season in winter, so I wondered how a ramen shop could be built around them, but once I went there I understood.
The place
It seems to be a branch of a pretty popular shop. The line here was long too.
Tables
Nothing special.
Water cup
I took a photo because the color was pretty..
Kaedama (extra noodles) is cash only..
Well, a lot of places are like this, so it’s a good idea to keep some cash on hand.
Oyster ramen
The oysters aren’t added whole; instead, they go in as an oyster paste. That way they can stay open all year round.. The taste was like the broth of Korean oyster gukbap (oyster rice soup) made a bit richer. It’s a little less refreshing, but if you like oysters, it’s a flavor you can’t dislike.
The noodles look like this..
The noodles were on the firm side.
Anyway, there’s no chewy oyster bite, but the oyster flavor really comes through, and I think it would be a nice place to drop by on a cold winter day. That said, if it’s purely about the oysters, I have a feeling oyster gukbap would be far more satisfying..
