Mils, a Bakery Cafe in Seongsu-dong

Mils is known for its sausages, made by a chef who came from Mosu.

The place

Hip, as you’d expect in Seongsu.

The breads

Quite a variety.

The breads

Even at a glance, the quality seems a notch below a dedicated bakery..

Mils

Apparently they won some croissant championship..

All sorts of products

Hip..

Inside

Bread

Tropical Punch

Banh Mils Bun

Call it a sausage version of banh mi.. The cilantro was nice, and the sausage was juicy and chunky, so it was delicious.. But this kind of delicate balance belongs to the realm of cooking, so it probably wouldn’t survive takeout; luckily there was a seat today, so I could eat in..

Cross section

No doubt about it, this is a well-made dish.

Inside

That said, while the cooking is high level, the bread on its own isn’t that great compared to a proper bakery. Since this is hip Seongsu, coming here to soak up the hipness seems like a fine idea.

The Seongsu-dong vibe

Lots of curious things around.

Places like this too

As Seongsu grows, the once-obscure corners are developing too.

Seongsu vibes

Run-down old houses turning into hip cafes..

The Seongsu atmosphere

It feels a bit like Yeonnam-dong back in the day.. I’m sure it’ll keep growing..
