Isuzu Bakery holds some memories for me. It has been in business in Kobe for that long, and it has stayed popular the whole time. Looking at it now, there are surely plenty of better bakeries, but it is still a place worth visiting at least once.
The place
Almost everything is clustered around Sannomiya, so one loop around this neighborhood pretty much wraps up a Kobe trip..
Recommended breads
The truth is, the curry bread is the popular one here, and there are a few other famous items. You can assume those pretty much never disappoint.

Tresron
The bread I recommend is this Tresron, which apparently means “very long” in French. The sausage is so long that they cut it up to sell it. I remember enjoying it a lot years ago. The sausage is snappy and the bread is chewy, so it is tasty, but by today’s standards there is plenty of great bread around, so it is best enjoyed as a flavor that has been famous for a long time. Anyway, having it again after a long while, it was good, but not the kind of thing that moves you the way it once did.

There is a wide variety. Among them, a sandwich called the casse-croute seemed to be the famous one.
There were so many breads I wanted to try, but I had other plans, so I could not do that much shopping. I figure there will be another chance next time, but these days Korean bakeries are all doing great bread too.. so I cannot say the thought “is it really worth it?” never crossed my mind..
