I was walking around Namyeong when I saw that the bakery upsm was open, so I went in. This neighborhood is fairly well known (Namyeongdon, for instance…) so I drop by now and then, but every time I was in no position to buy anything — this day I finally made up my mind and stopped in. Honestly, there are so many bakeries worth visiting that getting to all of them isn’t easy.

Sausage baguette

It looks lovely, but the real joy is the juicy sausage bursting as you bite into it. It is a bit small, though, so opinions might be divided on that.

Hallabong rye bread

This rye bread is really good. Rye bread is usually a bit plain, but the tangy citrus flesh works as the highlight and made it delicious.

The whole haul

If it were near my place I’d probably visit often, but lately my pattern has been buying a big loaf on the weekend, keeping it in the fridge and eating a bit at a time during the week… so I doubt I’ll have much reason to make a special trip. A little disappointing, but at some point another day with time to spare will come around.

A dessert shop I didn’t know had opened up, but by now there are so many of them that keeping up isn’t easy…

Hallabong rye bread

Beautiful. There probably aren’t that many places in Seoul working at this level. The fact that shops like this keep appearing is, I think, the competitive strength of Korean bakeries. Coming to Seoul just to eat bread turns out to be a pretty good choice.
