Have a Meal, a bakery near the Hongjecheon stream out toward the far end of Yeonhui-dong, is a well-known bakery in the neighborhood. The place looked good, so I paid it a visit.
The place
Neat and tidy. Meal breads — the savory kind, not sweet — and coffee, it says.
The breads
It sits in a quiet neighborhood, but the level of the bread looks pretty serious. And there are classic movie posters up on the wall.
Inside
Snug, and nicely put together. If that’s the owner’s taste, the bread should be worth looking forward to.
Perfect Days
I love this film too, but it never occurred to me to go get the poster.
Jam
The bread really was delicious — nutty, fragrant, generously filled, and good value on top of that. As a neighborhood bakery, it’s at a level where there’s nothing more you could ask for. Only, I went late in the day and there wasn’t much left, so next time I’ll have to get there a bit earlier.
Seongsu and Apgujeong have plenty of big bakeries with a lot of money poured into them, but a bakery run by an owner with taste, like this one, is especially satisfying. Which is why lately I’ve been going around to nothing but places like this.
