Hyojeru is apparently what a Chinese restaurant called Florida Banjeom turned into after it moved. Florida Banjeom was famous for being good in the first place, so Hyojeru, post-move, is packed with people too.
The notice
They only seat you once your whole party has arrived, apparently. Not ideal for a group gathering, so bear that in mind.. But on weekdays it seems you can walk in before 6, and even after that the tables turn over fast, so I did not have to wait all that long.
The menu
The prices are pretty good.
Side dishes
Seafood jjamppong
They pile the ingredients in like mad and there is a heavy, deep flavour to it, so it is top class. I will grant them their reputation as a jjamppong place.
The broth
Order the fried rice and jjamppong broth comes with it, and that alone tastes good.
Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)
This place has a big reputation for its tangsuyuk in particular, but the outside is so crisp that some people might wonder whether this really counts as tangsuyuk.. meat tanghulu, you might call it.. Eaten piping hot the moment it arrives the balance is very good, but once it cools the flavour feels like it falls off a bit.. A place like this really is one you have to come to with a big eater to enjoy properly, I think.
Shrimp fried rice
The crisp garlic chives are the point. There is no way it would not be good. The jjajang is tasty too.
Inside
Reasonable prices, a menu with character, and generous portions too, so of course the place is popular. It looks like a good spot for two or three people to get together for a light drink.
