Mutekiro in Yokohama is a long-established restaurant, cafe and dessert shop all in one. Which is to say, if you ever came to hang out in Motomachi way back when, Mutekiro was already there then too. So it is a place with a lot of memories and a lot of history behind it.
The Mutekiro sign
“Muteki” here does not mean invincible; it means fog and steam whistle. The image of a steamship moored in the harbour back in the port-opening days, I suppose.
Inside
Very old-fashioned. I doubt you could pull off this look on purpose so easily. And there weren’t that many people, so I got to spend a quiet stretch of time here.
Chocolate roll cake
It tastes exactly like it looks.
A glass of Perrier
Coffee
Mont Blanc
This one is nicely tasty too.
The dish
I thought the design was pretty.
The desserts
It was nice being able to look at them and pick. More than anything else, the atmosphere is good, it isn’t crowded, the prices are on the higher side, the taste is solid – with all those conditions lined up, I thought, ah, this is a Yokohama date course. I’d like to come back next time I want to spend some quiet time.
Mutekiro’s fondant chocolat, small size
A fondant chocolat that is popular as a Yokohama souvenir.
Inside.
The price is reasonable and it makes a good gift.
Fondant chocolat
It tasted like gateau chocolat mixed with yokan, so it felt like a dessert that touches on Yokohama’s own identity. At this level I think it would be fine to give to anyone. Maybe because it has always been a city with deep history, this neighbourhood has a lot of historic desserts like rum balls and cherry sand. I think the desserts alone are reason enough to visit Yokohama.
