BARolo is the kind of place that always feels like, what, home? It has that sort of warmth to it. And the music selection is good too.
Today’s wine
Their wine selection is always so well judged that you can just leave it to them.
Abalone
Their skill hasn’t gone anywhere.
Camembert
All sorts of things keep coming out..
Adelphi’s Limerick Selection, Slaney Malt, 23 years old, 59%.
It’s an Irish whiskey whose distillery name isn’t disclosed. Romanee-Conti, Moutai, Yamazaki 50 Year.. I haven’t drunk every supposedly great spirit in the world, but when something is this good, you start wondering whether there is any need to drink anything else.. As a whisky Adelphi puts their name on, the taste is outstanding. Anyone who has drunk it alongside me will know exactly what I’m talking about.. It was matured so well that you couldn’t feel the strength at all, and the aroma was beautiful.. The taste went far beyond what I expected.. It feels a bit late in the day, but I wonder whether I should have dug into Irish whiskey a little more.. For what it’s worth, the Limerick series is still coming out, but whether it stays at this level is anyone’s guess.

Running BARolo, you can feel their determination to do what they want to do rather than chase income. Maybe that’s exactly why the place feels so easy to settle into.
In the old days I’d have gone regularly, but these days various circumstances mean I can’t manage that. There’s plenty of whisky I want to drink, so it’s a shame.
