I stopped off at Harajuku Station on my way to Yoyogi-Hachiman.
Harajuku Station these days
The construction is done and the place is spotless. With this many people passing through, it had better be at least this good.
The exterior
It feels like the work that started around the time of the Olympics is only now finally finished.
The Hyundai showroom
It doesn’t really come across in the photo, but BTS are on the ad. I never expected Korean cars to make another run at Japan. It won’t be easy, but I hope they pull it off.
A Reiwa campaign truck
Taro Yamamoto, a fairly well-known politician, is out campaigning. This area feels a bit tidier as well.
Yoyogi Park
Lucky Rocky Chicken
The line was oddly long, so I took a picture.
Long line here too, so I took a picture…
Jensen
Jensen, my target for the day. They make traditional Danish bread here, and since I have no idea when I’ll ever get to Denmark, and no guarantee I’d be eating bread even if I did, a bakery like this is a fine place to try something I’ve never had.
Jensen
They told me no photos inside, so I couldn’t get a shot of the names.
Smørbirkes
It looks pretty ordinary and the style is a little old-fashioned, but it’s good. Easy to eat, with a touch of sweetness. This is their most famous bread, and I suspect that’s exactly why.
Stinger
A sweet one. The kind of pastry I imagine kids would love.
Blondebrød
This one was good too. Danish bread seems to be the sort of thing anyone would enjoy.
I’d been curious what Danish bread was actually like, and maybe because this is such a long-established bakery, everything was the easy-going kind a whole family can share. If that’s the style, it’s worth coming back for.
