These days, when I travel, I mostly pick the destination based on the hotel. I booked the Seamarq Hotel and just went for Gangneung on a whim… and it turns out it’s close by KTX. (I visited around February 2019.)

Arrival

There weren’t many people around…

Eomjine…

Only the famous places had long lines… not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing… I was on the fence about stopping by anyway, but the line was way too long and they have a branch in Seoul too, so I skipped it this time.

Ppang Dabang

This was my first stop, because it’s downtown and easy to find… The hotel is out by the beach, so once you’re in, it’s hard to get back out to town. From what I experienced this time, the famous spots in Gangneung are each worth a visit. Maybe it’s because “healing” trips are trendy these days, but it feels like the number of popular places has grown even more…

The quality is definitely good.

Inside

The bread is chewy, it’s packed full of cream, there are nuts in it too, and it’s delicious. Lots of copycat shops have popped up, but the original’s quality is high, so it won’t be easy for them…
