Torifuji’s main shop is in the inner market, but going back and forth is a bit of a hassle. A place this good is still unknown to tourists, and as a local I can only be grateful for that..

The menu is varied, but about half the customers were ordering the ramen called tori soba. I needed takeout that day, so I ordered the oyakodon and the steamed chicken rice.

This is how they pack it up.

Not a trace of off-flavor in the chicken. That’s Torifuji for you..

Steamed chicken rice (mushidori gohan)

Makes me wonder why I kept going around eating Singapore-style steamed chicken. Japanese steamed chicken is this good, after all. A place that knows what it’s doing still does it well even after a modern makeover.
