I heard a rumor that an Oreno Bakery had opened in Ginza and rushed over. There is already one in Ebisu, but apparently the line there is long. The Ginza branch is behind the Matsuya department store, and so far the line is not long at all. To be honest, the line at Centre the Bakery had gotten so long that I needed an alternative, so this worked out nicely.
It looks roughly like this
Very easy to find. It is right behind Matsuya, after all.
The counter on the first floor
It is a long, narrow space, and the second floor is a cafe, though I did not go up.
This is the kind of bread they sell..
The selection changed a little every time I went.
Cows..
Because the most famous item here is the milk bread..
The bread descriptions
They all look tasty, but..
Oreno Nama Shokupan, the milk bread
This is a super premium loaf that costs 1,000 yen. One bite and I understood why. It really captures the softness of milk. I had been eating nothing but rich, butter-laden loaves for a while, so a milk bread that pushes softness to the absolute limit like this was exactly what I was craving.
Tamago sando
It has Japanese-style dashi in it.
The crust
The sandwich is good, but.. even the crust on its own is delicious. A curious kind of bread..
The loaf I bought next time, the yamagata (mountain-top) loaf
The earlier loaf was too soft to make good toast, but this one is tasty even toasted. That said, the first loaf has a bit more impact..
I had never been to any of the Oreno chain before, and this first visit to Oreno Bakery really caught me off guard. It made me realize you can make bread this good from such a completely different idea. If you are a bread lover, definitely stop by..
