Right now the number-one yakitori place in Kyoto on Tabelog is Kuchibashi Modern. A high Tabelog score doesn’t automatically make a place great, but at least it means it won’t be bad. I had a drink at Masuya Saketen first, then headed over here.

The food was really good for the price. The tebasaki was a revelation, and the soup was rich and deeply flavored. Honestly, it wasn’t far off from the one-Michelin-star place I visited a little while ago. No wonder it’s number one on Tabelog. A place like this should have been the first stop of the night, but oh well… there’ll be a next time.
