For a while I had business near Bupyeong Market, so while I was at it I went around a few of the well-rated places nearby. There are several old establishments with good reviews, and all of them were top-notch. In an old neighborhood there is always a great restaurant hiding somewhere.

Bupyeong Station, the air still bad

The air this spring seems to have been especially bad. It was hard to even walk around outside.

Bupyeong Makguksu

You get that old-school vibe. It is closer to Bupyeong Market than to Bupyeong Station, and there were more people than I expected. Most of them were of a certain age.

Noodle water (myeonsu)

When they bring out the noodle water as soon as you sit down, you know the place has the basics right, so you can order with peace of mind.

The basic setup

Simple.

Half a plate of pyeonyuk (pressed boiled pork)

Since I came alone, I ordered just a half plate. It is not top-restaurant quality, but I cannot help being grateful for the mere fact that a naengmyeon place has a 5,000 won side dish. You could call it a great spot for the solitary gourmet.

Naengmyeon

It is somewhere between makguksu and naengmyeon. They say it is Baengnyeongdo-style naengmyeon, and it tastes similar to Ongjin Naengmyeon in Juan. The buckwheat content of the noodles is fairly high, and the broth is sweetish and addictive. The portion was big and I worried whether I could finish it, but it was so good I inhaled it in a moment. It lives up to its reputation as a place that has been loved for a long time.

Price list

The only problem is that I do not get to Bupyeong often; if I lived nearby, I would drop in all the time. The value for money is really outstanding.
