La Bettola da Ochiai in Ginza offers great value for money, and despite that, reservations are not that hard to get. It used to be legendary for its popularity; they say it is not quite at that level anymore, but even so, the line was long.
First, a glass of wine
Focaccia
A bit heavy on the oil, but nicely salty and tasty.
Yoshida Farm mozzarella with tomatoes
Fresh and clean. Tastes just the same as it used to.
House-made ham
Excellent quality.
Mushroom pasta
You can feel the aroma of autumn.
Pasta with red-wine-braised beef
Not as moving as it once was, but still tasty.
Fish main
Today there seem to be an awful lot of mushroom dishes. Probably just a matter of what we picked, though.
Beef cutlet
This one is decent too.
Panna cotta
Dessert kept simple..
Coffee
The overwhelming wow factor of the old days is gone now and nowhere to be found, but the value for money is still outstanding. Judging by how the portions were so big it was painful to finish, I have clearly started eating less. I suspect I will keep going out of my way to visit places with this kind of concept less and less.
