Ryuen, an Organic Chinese Restaurant in Asakusa

One holiday around lunchtime I suddenly had a craving for tantanmen, so I went to a Chinese restaurant near my place. It is not a place known for its tantanmen, but Ryuen is always reliable.

Ebi chili (chili shrimp)

ryuen

The shrimp were still wonderfully springy. Good ingredients and restrained seasoning are what this place is all about, and this ebi chili was no exception. It is milder than your typical ebi chili, but that is what I liked about it. If you are into strong flavors, though, you might find it bland.

Fried rice

ryuen

A work of art, as always. It is also great with the soup poured over it, ochazuke-style.

Tantanmen

ryuen

Very mild, just like everything else here. Who knew they would make even tantanmen this gentle~ The flavor was excellent, but it is probably not for anyone looking for a kick.

For dessert, Italia no Gelato-ya

italian gelato

A gelato shop right in the middle of the Asakusa shopping street. The gelato is pretty good. Tourists usually form a long line here, but there were only a few people that day.

I cannot remember what flavor this was..

italian gelato

It looks pretty shabby, but the taste is the real deal. Worth stopping by once if you are out and about in Asakusa.
