Right after getting back from Japan, I ended up going to a meetup for suyuk. I really need to dig deeper into Korean food, but it isn’t easy.
Today’s gifts
One of the group had just been to Spain and brought these along. The quality looks excellent. You can see some jerky at the back too.
Cacao Sampaka Gaudí chocolates
Who brings such a fancy dessert? We saved it for the very end.
On a plate
Looks seriously delicious. We opened some wine and had it as a snack, and it was a great match.
Omija liquor
Another member brought this one. Getting to try all kinds of food is the best part of a food-lovers’ get-together like this.
Suyuk (boiled beef)
I think this was close to 60,000 won. Pricey, sure, but it was just as substantial. It’s not like I’ve never had suyuk before, but this was a first at this level. The meat was so good it had me reaching for soju without even thinking.
Side dishes
This place is famous for its seolleongtang, so the side dishes came seolleongtang-house style.
Galbi-jjim
The meat quality on this one was disappointing. It looks similar, but the quality is completely different. Hmm.. and it isn’t cheap either, so I was a bit let down.
Seolleongtang
They say the seolleongtang is famous, so I couldn’t skip it. The broth is a killer hangover cure. It would be worth coming all the way here just for this.
They make fried rice for you.
As for the taste, well…
Gaudí chocolates for dessert.
The design is pure art. I ate until I was about to burst. For round two I dropped by 2chef for a quick single malt before heading home. I should go there more often, but lately I barely make it. I can’t help wondering how my wines sleeping in the cellar are doing.
