Every summer I take part in an event where we do a barbecue. It’s a private gathering, so putting it on the blog feels a little odd, but I did take a few photos along the way, so here’s a quick post.
A busse from Kashi Kobo Toa, lemon flavour
A busse is a confection similar to a dacquoise, and the ones Toa sells are big, with more cream packed in than seems strictly reasonable. In among all that cream between the castella-like sponge, bits of lemon peel came through with a bright, fresh bite.. The curious part is that they sell these busse from a vending machine, so I could buy one even outside the shop’s opening hours. Seems like a rather good way to sell them.

It was perfect weather for a barbecue outdoors.

The chicken skewers come ready-prepped at the supermarket, and just buying them as they are and grilling them tastes pretty good. Beyond those we grilled all sorts of meat and seafood and fried up some yakisoba, and it was all delicious. But by the time the grilling started I’d already had a few cans of beer, so there was no chance of taking photos.

Does anyone know what this is?
It’s called an anshin-bo, a “safety stick”.. you fit a set of fireworks onto the stick so they’re held well away from your hand while you play with them. You can load several firework sets onto one anshin-bo.. so this sort of thing was possible after all.. We had a good time playing right into the night.
