Last time I was in Yoyogi-Hachiman I found out there was a place called Mont Blanc STYLE, so this time I went early in the morning. Around 8 a.m…. I got there well before opening, and they were already handing out numbered tickets for a 2 p.m. slot…
The situation…
This is a dessert that takes this much effort to get to eat.
Mont Blanc STYLE, arriving when my time came
It’s amazing that anyone came up with this idea…
The menu
You pick either the parfait or the mont blanc… Since I was on my own, I went with the mont blanc and sake set.
The explanation…
This explains why a place called Mont Blanc STYLE came to exist. Mont blanc is made from chestnuts, and chestnuts oxidize easily. So to make a mont blanc with real flavor, it has to be made on the spot. Otherwise you inevitably end up with a very sweet mont blanc. It also says they have their own farm for their dedicated chestnuts.
A glass of water
Making it fresh in front of you
They really do make the mont blanc right there on the spot. They put so much care into it, too.
Mont blanc
The chestnut flavor was really intense. And there’s very little sweetness. I’m fine with the usual sugar-loaded mont blanc too, but this one is best thought of as a completely different style.
Sake
The thing is… it goes incredibly well with the sake. A perfect drinking snack. Coming up with this pairing is nothing short of genius… If you love nihonshu, you have to go at least once…
