Pyeonuibang, Yeonnam-dong

Pyeonuibang is a Chinese restaurant in Yeonnam-dong famous for its mandu. The place looks shabby, but it had a good reputation among bloggers, and then one day it suddenly got on TV and became really hard to get into. There are a lot of places like this lately, which is a shame. Who knows how long this will go on.. it should calm down in a few years.

The tea comes in a whole pot.

Nice service.

Side dishes

pyeonuibang

Simple.

Ohyang naejang (five-spice pork offal)

pyeonuibang

It is 10,000 won and the portion is decent. There is a bed of cucumber underneath, so it is less than it looks, but it is just right as a drinking snack.

Fried mandu

pyeonuibang

The fried mandu here are not as special as the steamed ones, but dipped in the sweet and sour sauce from the ohyang naejang they are a real treat. Perfect with kaoliang liquor.

Steamed mandu

pyeonuibang

I had a feeling the style had changed a bit since my last visit, but objectively, anything this good more than deserves to be called a famous place.

Yusul jjamppong

pyeonuibang

I ordered one main dish to try, and the broth of the yusul jjamppong was so clean and refreshing. It outclasses most jjamppong specialists. They were thoughtful enough to split one order into two bowls, and the portion was just right for finishing off after the mandu, which made it even better.

I went back a little while later.

pyeonuibang

A glass of soju, lighter than kaoliang..

Ohyang jangyuk (five-spice braised pork)

pyeonuibang

The ohyang naejang is 10,000 won and the ohyang jangyuk 15,000 won, and for a difference like that you are better off ordering the ohyang jangyuk.. the quality was really good.

Steamed mandu

pyeonuibang

You cannot not order them.

Yusul jjamppong

The best way to finish, this time too.

If you start light here, there are so many places to go for round two. There is Craft One, there is Opas, and tons of new restaurants and bars have opened in Yeonnam-dong. It is a really good place, so it is a pity it has become so hard to get in. Someday it will go back to normal.
