I spent a night at The Shilla Seoul and got up late in the morning. I can see that the Shilla is a fine hotel, but sleeping in the middle of Seoul just doesn’t do much for me. Having the duty free shop right there made shopping easy, which was a big plus, but still..

This is the morning view from inside the room. Very Korean, isn’t it. Which is probably exactly why it didn’t move me.
Breakfast
Too lazy to go outside, and too lazy to go down to a restaurant for a proper meal either, so I bought some bread and cake at the Pastry Boutique and ate in the room.
Bread, cake, an eclair and so on.. I picked up whatever looked good, and it came to a lot of food for breakfast and a fairly hefty bill too. Then again, there’s no telling when I’ll be back at the Shilla, so an occasion like this is a good chance to try a bit of everything.
Club sandwich
It looks like an ordinary sandwich, but everything you’d want in a sandwich is in there. The ingredients were all in fantastic shape too. Perfect for breakfast. Even at the price, this is a sandwich worth making the trip for. It was the first place in Korea I’d found doing one at this level, so making a good sandwich must not be an easy thing. Hitting the right price point can’t be easy either.
Cake
Not especially remarkable and not off in any direction either, just plainly delicious eclair and pecan pie. They tasted every bit as good as they looked. You can tell plenty of good ingredients went into them. If it weren’t for the price I’d recommend them wholeheartedly.. the.. the price..
The bread here is solid on the fundamentals, as you’d expect from a hotel, but expensive. For anything other than the club sandwich I suspect you could find a cheaper and more satisfying alternative elsewhere, but the sandwich is one I’d like to eat again someday. If I ever happen to be wandering around near the Shilla in the morning, that is. (And have plenty of money on me.)
